Warning: Excessive tennis may cause happiness. MORGAN HILL TENNIS CLUB [September | 2026] ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Where has the Summer gone? Despite us being in the “ber” months, how lucky are we to have lingering warm evenings and perfect tennis weather? Get out there and play! It’s been a while since our last newsletter, and we’ve got lots of info for you. Grab your emotional support water bottle and buckle up! We are late in thanking everyone who showed up to our first LiveBall event. It was a great success with roughly 30 members, give or take. We hope you all enjoyed the event. If you attended, please feel free to provide feedback to a board member. We’d like to hear from you - want to play again? More courts next time? Let us know. Reminder! Please be sure to remove your garbage. The Club is responsible for garbage removal from the court. If other “garbage” is on the courts and needs professional removal, immediately report it to the City here: SeeClickFix: https://qrco.de/MaintenanceRequest Smile for the cameras! Literally. You may have noticed that shiny new cameras have popped up on all three court blocks. They’re officially up and running in hopes of capturing court vandals. They have also recently caught some glorious down-the-line winners, potentially questionable line calls, and occasional “I swear I usually make that shot” moments. We’re still ironing out the logistics to make the footage available for broader use, with the primary goal being that members can check court status in the winter (instead of texting Ken a hundred times on a rainy day), and to see if there is availability on those early, busy, Saturday mornings. Stay tuned. If you break it, we will likely not require you to buy it, but…. Recently, it was discovered that the court blower was broken. Since it wasn’t immediately reported, it was found with rather poor timing: when a fellow captain was looking to clear the courts of debris in preparation for a match. We kindly ask that if an accident happens, you let us know so we can be sure to get the item repaired or replaced as quickly as possible. We will keep the public shaming to a minimum. Just let us know! Who doesn’t love a dog? Court dogs are the best. We LOVE them! (Send pictures of your court dog to Lisa, immediately, thnx!) If you bring your fluffy friend to the courts, please be sure that you clean up any messes that may be made - even if it requires a couple of trips to the water fountain to wash down the area. We’re currently looking for a website partner for our current guru, Edward Taylor. Edward is the architect behind both the MH and Gilroy tennis club sites. We’re looking to make some changes to the current site presentation and figure this is a great time to bring in someone to back Edward up and assist with this monstrous task. While this won’t be a Board position, technically, I am sure we can find some perks to sweeten the pot. Please note that we LOVE all volunteers, but for this specific role, we are asking that you only volunteer if you have some pretty decent (and somewhat recent) experience building and maintaining websites. Please reach out to Rachel or Edward for more information. Finally, a quick heads up about a change coming in 2027. In 2027, the “additional family member” discount rate will be discontinued. All members will be paying the incredibly, unbelievably, almost suspiciously cheap price of $60 for annual membership. While this won’t affect roughly 90% of you, a few folks may notice the bump when it’s time to renew. Times have changed, nets aren’t getting any cheaper, and we’re proud to be what is likely the most affordable option around (despite our ongoing battle with the mysterious disappearance of items from the shed). Happy hitting ~ The MHTC Board ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Club Announcements & Highlights ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Halloween Mixer: Please visit our website MHtennis.com and sign up for our Halloween Mixed Mixer, set to be held on 10/16, at 7pm. Warm up at 6:30. You don’t need to have a partner or to wear a costume. However, the costume is highly encouraged (and there may be a prize for the best). We’ll have pizza and music, you bring the boo’s (BYOB)! Court clean up day! Volunteer and help your club! We are having a court clean up day on Friday, October 2nd. Random garbage, dirty tables and loose shade canvases don’t take care of themselves. Join us if you are available, October 2nd at 4:30. Let Ken or Julie know if you can help out. Rainy day scrub: Get your rain slicker, rubber boots, and puddle jumpers ready. When the rain arrives, we’ll be scheduling a short notice court washing party. Who doesn’t love playing in the rain? Ken will be organizing this when the time comes, so let him know if you want to join. Find it here: USTA NorCal 2027 calendar Upcoming registrations - November 2nd to November 30th: Adult 65 & Over, daytime only, registration begins November 30th. We are so fortunate to have the ability to continue to cover entry fees for all our successful teams in their Sectionals adventures, make court repairs where needed and doable, all while keeping the cost of membership and club events low. That said, because we work on a budget, we’re happy to take any donations of time and/or money. Sponsorships: Help your club, here! New Scorecards Wondering where those scorecards are that we keep talking about? Well… let me tell you… it’s not as simple as grabbing a pack off Amazon and calling it a day. We’ve been eyeing some fancy, hard‑plastic scorecards with those satisfying sliding slots. Real deluxe scoreboard energy. Unfortunately, our current hardware setup isn’t exactly cooperating. We’re working on it, but let’s just say it may require… light welding. Feel like donating? We’d happily accept extra funds in case this turns into a “break out the sparks and safety goggles” kind of project. Thank you for supporting the club — your contributions keep our program thriving.
