MORGAN HILL TENNIS CLUB
Official Club Newsletter

[January | 2026]

🗣 From the Board

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

We’re excited to share this newly reimagined newsletter as part of the Board’s ongoing effort to strengthen communication and transparency within our tennis club. Our goal is to keep members better informed about club activities, seasonal updates, and the decisions that help guide our community forward. Financially, we are focused on responsible stewardship—ensuring dues and fundraising dollars directly support courts, equipment, and events —while also planning sustainably for future seasons. Throughout the year, this space will highlight club goals, budget priorities, upcoming initiatives, and any important announcements that affect our members. Most importantly, we want this to be a two-way conversation. Your participation, feedback, and volunteer support are what make our club thrive, and we welcome your ideas as we continue to grow together on and off the court.

Happy hitting ~ The MHTC Board

🎾 Captain’s Corner

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🎉Captains! First and foremost, have you been told “thank you” today? If not, THANK YOU!

Going forward, this section of the newsletter will be dedicated to helpful information specifically for captains (and anyone else who ventures into captain territory). For example—we recently cleaned the shed! 🎉 Our hope is to keep it that way… and make it significantly less mouse-friendly. Please remember to return scorecards to the table and place scorecard balls back in the plastic ball bin when you’re done.

Yes, we know—this may sound a little silly. But trust us, no one wants to walk into a creepy shed, trip over a loose tennis ball, and dramatically end their bright tennis career before the season is over. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated… by both the Board and your ankles.

💰 Show Me the Money

Financial Updates:

Going forward, we want to share a transparent look at the club’s finances. In 2025, after collecting club membership dues, team court fees, tournament entry fees, and banquet ticket sales, the club finished the year with a net loss of $6,245. While some year-to-year fluctuation is expected, our goal is to break even annually, with the ability to slowly build reserves for larger expenses that the City may not cover. This is especially important given the club’s current balance of approximately $15,000, making ongoing annual losses unsustainable.

Notable 2025 Expenses Included:

  • $815 in PayPal processing fees
  • $2,060 in club-subsidized Sectionals entry fees
  • $1,600 in club-subsidized court fees (cost after team fees were collected)
  • $2,690 in general court maintenance items (canopies, straps, nets, equipment)
  • $2,085 final banquet cost

Looking ahead, the Board is actively exploring ways to generate additional revenue in 2026 and beyond to help close this gap. As part of this effort, court fees will increase in 2026 to better reflect actual court costs. This adjustment should result in only a few-dollar increase per player per team. To help keep things running smoothly, we encourage captains to collect court fees from players prior to play and ask players to proactively submit payment when requested.

Updated team fees:

  • 5 lines - $220
  • 4 lines - $175
  • 3 lines - $135

Big Ideas, Modest Budget

We love the big ideas and creative suggestions floating around the club! Just a friendly reminder that we’re working with a $60/$25-per-year membership budget, not quite Bay Club money 😄. That said, if you’re excited about a specific improvement and want to help make it happen—through a donation or fundraising—we’re all ears. Send the Board a quick email with your idea and how you’d like to support it, and we’ll take a look to see if it’s something the club can move forward with (possibly even matching the contribution… no promises!). Thanks for helping keep our club fun, functional, and just a little bit fancy.💅

Thank you for supporting the club — your contributions keep our program thriving.
