MORGAN HILL TENNIS CLUB

[April | 2026]

From the Board

WHOOSH! April zipped past us like a cross‑court winner. With two major club events and seven teams grinding through playoffs, we’ve been rallying nonstop. Let’s break down the highlights!

The Pickleball Tournament was an absolute smash hit! It was a full day of fast rallies, big laughs, and nonstop action. Three divisions and 54 players battled it out under a perfectly sunny, not‑too‑hot sky. Huge congratulations to all our champions, and a big thank‑you to everyone who stepped on the court. And of course, a special shoutout to our amazing hosts, Patrick and PJ Sproule, for letting us use their beautiful courts, and to the volunteers who kept the games flowing and the snacks stocked!

  • Court 1: 1st - Bonnie/Nick C., 2nd - Amy/Gary, 3rd - Albert/Sarah
  • Court 2: 1st - Stefanie/Dave, 2nd - Kevin/Naromy, 3rd - Rose/Phi
  • Court 3: 1st - Grahm/Jessica, 2nd - Laura/Cheng, 3rd - Bora/Dao
  • Court 4: 1st - Ivy/Bob, 2nd - Debbie/Brian, 3rd - Omid/Karissa

The Spring Tennis Tournament brought out 36 players across three levels—6.0, 7.0, and 8.0—and the competition was on fire! Every court had tight rallies, big points, and plenty of excitement, making for a fantastic morning of tennis. Huge thanks to all our players and the volunteers who made the event run so smoothly. What a day!

  • 6.0: 1st - Albert/Elaine, 2nd - Donna/Gary, 3rd - Jose/Kate/Tomek
  • 7.0: 1st - Jessica/Ilya, 2nd - Sunil/Mike, 3rd - Nanding/Rob
  • 8.0: 1st - Nick N./Tammi, 2nd - John/Joma, 3rd - Ganu/Bonnie

We had SEVEN(!) teams make it to the playoffs in March. Great job representing the MHTC out there! Of those seven teams, two are moving on to Sectionals - CONGRATS to Carol Muhn’s 2.5 team, and Rachel Banse’s 4.0 team.  You can do this!

Finally, a quick request… Send Lisa any club related photos you may have.  Win a tough match?  Take a photo and tell Lisa about it. Have a team practice? Let us know! The club Instagram page is a great way to keep us all connected and aware of what’s going on around the MHTC - we’d love to post some of what you’re seeing!  You can email Lisa, the Club, or DM the Instagram account directly. @morganhilltennisclub on Insta. Happy hitting ~ The MHTC Board

Club Announcements & Highlights

LiveBall:  You’ve been hearing the buzz and asked around, “Okay but seriously… What is LiveBall?”. Here’s the deal: LiveBall is tennis after it’s had three cups of coffee.

It’s fast‑paced, high‑energy, more‑the‑merrier cardio madness. You’ll run. You’ll laugh. You’ll question your life choices. And then you’ll ask when we're going to do it again because it’s ridiculously fun.

You’ll work on everything—cross‑court zingers, point‑ending smashes, staying calm under pressure—basically all the things you say you want to improve but never actually practice in a normal match because who has time for that?

Now, about the rules… Every club has “house rules,” which is a polite way of saying no two LiveBall courts on Earth play the same version.

Could I write our rules out? Sure.

Would it help? Absolutely not.

Watch a YouTube video, get the general vibe, and then prepare for us to do it slightly differently anyway. If you’re looking for a traditional tennis match, this is not your stop. If you’re ready to move FAST (yes, you will run), embrace friendly chaos, and compete without taking yourself too seriously—welcome to LiveBall.

LiveBall is best with at least 10 players, but it can handle 20+, particularly if we want more social than skill. All levels are welcome, and you don’t need a partner.

This first session is club‑hosted—free!  Bring a drink, a snack, and if you’re feeling generous, something to share. Once we lock in a date, you’ll get a dedicated email with sign‑up instructions. Plan tentatively for early June - likely a Friday evening.

We are on Instagram! Like, follow, and share! Submit pictures of club related events, team matches, practices, etc.  DM @MorganHillTennisClub

Reminder!  Please be sure to remove your garbage.  The Club is responsible for garbage removal from the court.  If other “garbage” is on the courts and needs professional removal, immediately report it to the City here: SeeClickFix:  https://qrco.de/MaintenanceRequest

Captain’s Corner

Captains!

Thanks for captaining — we literally couldn’t do this without you! Please know that your club is here to support you. If you have any questions, comments, or need help, reach out! We’ll see what we can do.

A quick heads‑up - this is still happening: we’ll be updating the shed code soon. When the change happens, you’ll get an email directly with the new code. We’d love to keep this code just between captains and anyone officially stepping in to captain a match.

When the code gets shared too widely, shed gear has a funny way of wandering onto courts and not always finding its way home again. Keeping the code limited helps us make sure everything stays where it belongs and is ready for the next team.

Show Me the Money

Power Washing the Courts: The Pickleball tournament fundraiser was a HUGE success and got us more than halfway to our $2,000 goal - after expenses, we netted roughly $1,300. Thank you again to everyone who participated!

The Spring Tennis tournament, while not specifically designated as a fundraising event, also netted a bit of revenue, about $200… Hey!  That’s a couple of scorecards, no?

Speaking of scorecards…

Sponsorships: Help your club, here!

New Scorecards

Our current scorecards have seen better days. We’d love to replace them with new scorecards. We are exploring different vendors, but one thing is for sure: they are not cheap!  Ideally, we order 8 to 10 new cards, priced between $80 and $90 each.

We have received some very generous donations so far - SHOUT OUT to Kotim Pak, Marjorie Moniz, and Michele Rumfola!  We are making progress and will be placing our order soon!

If you’d like to sponsor a scorecard or contribute towards general club maintenance, please reach out to Lisa Cabassa or email secretary@mhtennis.com.

Big Ideas, Modest Budget

As a reminder, we love the big ideas and creative suggestions floating around the club! Just a friendly reminder that we’re working with a $60/$25-per-year membership budget, not quite Bay Club money. That said, if you’re excited about a specific improvement and want to help make it happen—through a donation or fundraising—we’re all ears. Send the Board a quick email with your idea and how you’d like to support it, and we’ll take a look to see if it’s something the club can move forward with (possibly even matching the contribution… no promises!). Thanks for helping keep our club fun, functional, and just a little bit fancy.

Thank you for supporting the club — your contributions keep our program thriving.
